Birkirkara pass through to the next stage of the UEFA Champions League after they eliminated the Anodrran side at the Centenary Stadium in Ta Qali. It was a high octane match with six goals in the first half. Had Birkirkara been more clinical in front of goal they could have easily added another three to their tally. The aggregate score is 7-3 after Birkirkara Fc were awarded an away victory of 0-3 by the UEFA disciplinary board as the UEFA delegate referee and referee observer sent their report stating that the pitch was unsafe and unplayable. FC Santa Coloma face a Eur 10,000 fine as a punishment that will be suspended for a probationary two-year period.

FC Santa Coloma had to go all out to win this match and all the openings they left in midfield were used well by Rowen Muscat and Sean Bajada who had an excellent match for the home team.

6th min A very good interchange between Decesare and Bajada and Michael Galea’s first timer was intercepted by the Coloma keeper.

10th min Bajada shot was deflected to a corner by the Coloma keeper in extremis and after 2 consecutive corners Bajada delivered a cross which was headed in but Michael Galea tapped in to make sure.

21st min a missed clearance from Nisevic made way for Urbani as he slotted the ball easily after rounding the keeper.

33rd min Bajada interchanged with Galea who lobbed the keeper from just inside the box.

35th min Paris low pass to Cilia who placed the ball in the far corner where keeper Ricardo stood no chance.

45th min Jimenez freekick was deflected by a Birkirkara player into his own net. 3-2

45+2th min Fenech has a shot partially saved by Ricardo by Cilia was close by to poke in. 4-2

77th min Cilia should have made it five when Ricardo mis timed a clearance from just outside the box. The clever pass from Fenech eventually reached Cilia who had an open goal at mercy but angled the shot wide.

86th min Mariano Urbani pokes the ball in after Lovizan partially saves a corner.

Sportinmalta man of the match Sean Bajada. Michael Galea’s second goal surely was the best goal of the match. Turning point in the match was Trevor Cilia’s goal in the second minute of injury time awarded in the first half.

Birkirkara FC now face MŠK Žilina on the 21st of July and the designated referee is the Hungarian, Zsolt Szabo.
