Birkirkara 3-1 Mosta

Birkirkara swept Mosta aside in impressive fashion as the Stripes made a powerful statement of intent towards being championship contenders at the Corradino Stadium in today‘s first match.

Patrick Curmi embarked on an expensive summer rebuilding programme as new signing Alvira Moises scored another two goals in the first half.

Halfway through the match, left back Andrew Decesare was sent off, but the Stripes were always in control to register an easy 3-1 victory. Trevor Cilia scored the third for Patrick Curmi’s team. On the eighty-third minute Gilbert Martin scored a consolation goal for Mosta.

The Stripes were coming from a convincing 2-0 win against Qormi while Mosta suffered their first defeat of the season 5-2 against Marsaxlokk last week.

The Birkirkara mentor fielded an offensive 4-3-3 formation as he kept last week’s line up. Wingers Trevor Cilia and Leightom Grech supported centre striker Alvira Moises. Newly signed Shola Haruana watched his new team mates from the stands.

Mosta coach Oliver Spiteri made several changes from the 5-2 defeat against Marsaxlokk as Nikola Bogdanovic, Brothers Petriaggi and Nigerian Maki Mvondo were making the league debut for the Blues. Club Captain Brian Agius made his return on the bench for Mosta.
