Maltese national table tennis champion Daniel Bajada won the 2nd National Doubles event open for Category 4 players in Terni, Italy last weekend. Bajada teamed up with ASD Fiaccola team mate Giuseppe Coletta and won five matches en route to the final where they beat Giuseppe Quartuccio and Daniele Rizzo 3-2 (9-11, 8-11, 11-8, 11-4, 11-9) to claim the top prize. Bajada played an exceptional game having to recover from a 2-0 deficit at the start of the third set.

Meanwhile, the preliminary stages of the Singles Event got underway with the final stages being played on Sunday afternoon. Bajada has been drawn in Group 29 and will contend for the top honour among 450 players.

A day later Bajada went on to win the Singles Event in the same tournament, beating the more quoted Italain player Della Carri Vincenzo 3-2 in the final. Daniel lost the first two sets, score 13-11, 11-7, but our National Champion had a great comeback winning the other three sets 12-10, 12-10, 11-8 in a very tense and interesting match.

The Tournament was organised by the Italian Table Tennis Federation.
