Update: Backhaus released by the Magpies

Two more foreigners for Birkirkara…….

German midfielder Heiner Backhaus is no longer a Rabat Ajax player as he was given the release after a committee decision on Tuesday night.

The 30 year old had a long chat with president Michael Sciriha on Monday and the day after was decided to been released. The former Valletta defensive midfielder was brought back in Malta by the Magpies boss and the decision is such a surprise for some fans as the former league winner was twice capped the man of the match recently. He will also recieve a full paid till the end of this year.

Before leaving the club, Heiner Backhaus thanked all the fans and the committee members for the last months at the club, he also thanked the club to keep all the commitment with him, added the former Hamrun Spartans midfielder.

Rabat Ajax now are working to sign a foreign midfielder, who had an impressive campaign last season in the Maltese Premier League.

As was said on Malta most watched football programme Kontrattakk, joined leaders Birkirkara will add two more foreigners on their ranks as Brazilian defender Rodrigo Pereira started training with the Stripes earlier this week and will also add a Spanish striker.

Pereira 31, was also released about a year ago featured for the Hibernians futsal team last week before accepting the opportunity to again play for Birkirkara.

The Spanish striker is due in Malta next Saturday and played in the Spanish second and third division. He’s expected to started playing immediately as he’s set to be registered as an amateur player. He’s also 24 year old as he’s name will be revealed in the next days.

Last season Rodrigo was a regular choice as he made 29 appearances this season, with 27 appearances in the Premier League and another two in the U*BET FA Trophy. He also managed to find the net four times.

Agius and Micallef released by Floriana

Youngster Luke Agius recently was released by Floriana and joined second division side Mgarr United last month. Agius also had a loan spell with St George’s two season ago.

Mano Micallef brother Jurgen, also was released by the Greens as he was the club’s fourth goalkeeper choice.
