Balluta side fined €1,699. President suspended for 8 months
The Aquatic Sports Association of Malta has issued its ruling on incidents that took place during the Winter League final game on the 8th May that was played between Neptunes and Sliema.
Following this decisive tie, four charges were filed by the ASA against Neptunes. These included defamation, aggressive behaviour towards the ASA President, throwing objects towards the referee and incitement. The Balluta club were found guilty on the first three charges but cleared of inciting supporters.
In its ruling, the ASA issued a total of €1,699 worth of fines to the Neptunes Club and its President, Matthew Bonello, with the latter being further suspended for 8 months for defaming the referees and for addressing the ASA President in an aggressive manner. The club’s supporters were also found guilty of throwing a cigarette light in the direction of referee Balzan during the same match.
