Aquilina wins Table Football GP in France

Charles Aquilina the Valletta Lions Table Football Club player won the Gran Prix in the Veterans Category held in Issy France this weekend. This was the second glorious weekend for Aquilina after winning the IO held in Malta the weekend before.

In the final he beat 3-0 the Spanish Antonio Montano (Ranked 5th Aquilina had the better of Gianfranco Calanico the Italian (Ranked 4th ). Before reaching the finals ) in the semi final winning 2-1.

Other players from the same club that took part in this event where the Dutch Maikel de Haas who lost in the Quarter Final in the Open category. Joseph Mifsud and Dutch player Patrick de Jong where eliminated in the Barrage whilst Steve Austin did not manage to qualify from his group.

On Saturday in the teams event was held and Valletta Lions Table Football Club were eliminated in the last 16. They won the group stage when they won 4-0 against French side of Cannes 4-0 and 2-1 against the Belgian side of Charleroi. In the next round they were drawn to face the Belgian champions of Rochfort where they lost 2-1. The Belgian side were a class of their own when they won the tournamnet beating the Italian side of Fiamme Azzurre 2-1 to clinch the Teams title.
