Positive vibe for the Maltese in the Major of Rochefort

During the last weekend the Major of  Rochefort Belgium was organized where a total of 13 Maltese players took part  in the  Open, Veterans, U19 and also the two Maltese  teams of  Bormla SC and Valletta SC.

Valletta Subbuteo Club was composed of Samuel Bartolo (Captain), Derek Conti, Mario Camilleri, Joseph Borg Bonaci and Mark Gauci.

The individual competitions were held on Saturday.  In the Open Category Samuel Bartolo, Joseph Borg Bonaci, Mark Gauci made it till the last 32, while Derek Conti made it till the last 16. Mario Camilleri played in the Veteran category and got eliminated in the play-offs.

During the team event which was held on Sunday, Valletta Subbuteo Club had a very good performance and were very close to win this Major.  They passed the group 1st and after a very hard semi-final with the Italian team Napoli Eagles, they had the final with another Italian team SC Fiamme Azzurre.  It was a very good match, fought till the end.  The score was draw 2-2, but unfortunately Valletta Subbuteo Club lost with goal difference of 2.

Next March, Valletta Subbuteo Club will be participating in the Major of Frameries 2020.

Also in the  Open category,  Massimo Cremona of Napoli Fighters of Italy  reachedthe  last 16. In the Veterans Category, 4 Maltese players started the event among  the  total of 60 who began this competition with  John Zammit of Bormla SC, Jason Pisani of Master Sanremo and Mario Camilleri of Valletta SC arrived till the barrage stages after the groups with  Charlie Aquilina of Bormla  SC arrived to final against Montano of Tiburones Spain 1-3 . In the Consolination tournament from the total of 32, Josef Camilleri of Bormla  SC arrived  to the semi-final.

The World Seed No 1 Jurgen Balzan of SC Stembert in the U19 category was the only Maltese in this category out of a total of 9 who participated and arrived in semi-final. He lost the final 1-0 against Matthias Averlant.  Louison Giaux won this category. On Sunday he played with his Belgian team ST Stembert, which made it till the last 32.

In the teams event  out of a total of 41 teams from all Europe, the two teams of Valletta and Bormla participated with Bormla making it to quarter final. Jason Pisani Master Sanremo arrived  to the semi-final with the other Maltese club Valletta SC reaching the  final  with the game tied on the  2-2 against champions of Europe Fiamme Azzure Roma of Italy,  with the citiziens short of 2 goals difference.
