Swieqi      7

Sirens    0

Newcomers Swieqi are on maximum points from three games sharing top spot with Zejtun while Sirens have only one point also from three games.  The final score is a clear indication that there was only one team in the game as Sirens offered a very feeble challenge by  creating only four actions throughout the whole 80 minutes of play.

Swieqi took an early fifth minute lead as Andrew Johnson pounced on a defensive indecision  and released Nikolai Dimech in the area and he scored with a tap-in in an empty net as Sirens keeper Nathan Cutajar was out of his charge.

It took Swieqi only three more minutes to double their lead when Dimech released Johnson in the area who netted with a hard rising shot.

In the first action by Sirens Carlos Muscat was fouled outside the area and from the free kick by Elias Naeli the ball was deflected by a Swieqi defender and keeper Edward Gatt managed to neutralize the ball.

In another action by Swieqi in the 26th minute they came close a third goal as Johnson square-passed the ball to Andrew Sant Fournier outside the area and the ball missed the upright by inches from his hard drive, at the other end minutes later Owen Attard set Wayne Buhagiar free in the area but he drove over the bar when well-placed.

Swieqi then won a corner kick on the right flank and after Sant Fournier’s well-taken flag kick Liam Caruana Montaldo headed slightly out from inside the area and in an isolated action by Sirens Edward Gatt had to dive and save a shot by Naeli after he dribbled past an opponent outside the area.

A minute before the break Swieqi made it 3-0 as Johnson served Andrew Tortell with a through ball outside the area and after advancing scored with a hard rising shot from the edge of the area.

In the first action after resumption Tortell released Dimech just outside the area and Cutajar had to come out of his charge to kick the ball away to safety.

In an action by Sirens Naeli served Wayne Buhagiar in the area and Gatt foiled him with a timely sortie in two attempts.

In the 51st minute Tortell served Caruana Montaldo in the area and after he was tripped by the on-rushing Cutajar the same player made no mistake from the resultant penalty to make it 4-0.

Sirens then won a free kick outside the area and Edward Gatt had to dive and save to a corner the hard and dangerous shot by Naeli.

The score became 5-0 in the 55th minute when Luke Gatt served substitute Damien Micallef in the area who netted with a low drive. Swieqi trhe added two more goals to their tally in the 61st and 66th minutes. Caruana Montaldo scored with a hard rising shot from 40 metres after dribbling past an opponent and Luke Gatt scored with a low shot from inside the area after dirbbling his way past two opponents.

In the last action before the end Luke Gatt served Tortell with a square pass and Cutajar saved his effort from outside the area.
