The Cottonera lads were the better outfit during the games as they showed the better ideas and are now on maximum points from two games  while Zebbug have only one point from two games.

In the first action by Cottonera after four minutes they were denied by the wood work as Gianluca Sultana entered the area after beating two defenders and the ball hit the base of the upright from his shot with Zebbug keeper Neville Hili beaten and minutes later the same player released Gabriel Calleja in the area and Hili foiled him with a timely sortie.

Three actions were then created by Zebbug. Lee Cuschieri was fouled outside the area and Kurt Tanti drove slightly over the bar from the free kick, Tyron Hili was then fouled outside the area and Cottonera keeper Liam Scicluna saved the hard drive from the free kick by Luke Gatt and Matthew Camilleri released Tyron Hili in the area and Scicluna came out of his charge and kicked the ball away to safety.

In the next attack by Cottonera in the 18th minute they forged ahead when Glen Balzan released Calleja in the area who after beating an opponent scored with a hard low drive.

Two minutes later Zebbug came very close to parity when Lee Cuschieri pounced on a faulty goal kick on the edge of the area and Scicluna brought the house down with a spectacular save to a corner, and minutes later he was forced the fist the ball away to safety after a well-taken flag kick by Lee Cuschieri.

The initiative was then regained by Cottonera as they mounted three actions. Sultana served Gildave Brignone with a high through ball in the area and Hili saved his header in two attempts. Antoine Brignone was then fouled on the left flank and after the same player floated a high ball in the area from the free kick Hili tipped the ball over the bar after the hard drive by Sultana and Charlo Buttigieg released Sultana in the area and a defednder cleared the ball to a corner.

Just before the half time whistle Cottonera doubled their lead when Sultana dribbled past an opponent inside Zebbug’s half and scored with a hard rising shot in the top right hand corner of the net from 40 metres.

Zebbug created the first three actions after the restart. Sultana handled the ball outside the area and Scicluna saved the well-taken free kick by Kurt Tanti. Tyron Hili was then fouled outside the area and the high ball in the area from the free kick by Tanti created havoc in Cottonera’s area and somehow the ball was cleared away to safety Camilleri released Tyron Hili on the left flank who after advancing he missed the near post with his effort from the left edge of the area.

In the first action by Cottonera Calleja received the ball from a long drop-kick by his keeper who after advancing on the left flank the ball was cleared to corner from his dangerous low cross.

In the 70th minute Cottonera scored their third and final goal as Sultana entered the area after dribbling past a defender who then served Owen Gauci, who had just entered as a substitute four minutes earlier, with a low cross who scored with a hard low drive.

The last two actions before the end were created by Cottonera. Charlo’ Buttigieg released Gildave Brignone in the area and as Hili came out of his charge to narrow the angle he lobbed the ball over Hili and over the bar and Sultana dribbled past three defenders on the right flank and after he was tripped by Matthew Camilleri, who was shown a second yellow card and eventual dismissal, Antoine Brignone drove over the bar from the free kick.
