San Gwann    1

Floriana    0

Despite playing with ten men for nearly the whole of the second period, San Gwann were the more better outfit than Floriana who have to improve their future performances if they want to secure  Section A status.

The Yellows were a very combined outfit in all departments while the Greens were very erratic in their passing  and also were dominated by San Gwann’s sharp movements.

The early pressing came from San Gwann as they created four actions in a row. Fabrizio Zammit released Andrew Abela in the area and the ball missed the upright from his shot. Alessio Magri was then fouled outside the area and from Jan Tanti’s free kick the ball was cleared away with difficulty. After a flag kick by Tanti from the left flank the ball was cleared away by a defender and Luca Mallia square-passed the ball to Tanti on the edge of the area and he drove over the bar.

Floriana then created their only two actions . After a run down the left flank by Jake Stensen he served Zack Camilleri with a cross in the area and San Gwann keeper Martin Barbara saved his header and Loumar Cutajar released Camilleri in the area and after his shot was cleared to a corner, from the flag kick by Jamie Scerri from the left flank  Denilson Borg Castaldi drove out when standing at the near post.

San Gwann regained the initiative as they created three more actions before the break. After a flag kick by Tanti from the left flank Zammit headed slightly out from inside the area, the same player then dribbled past an opponent and after entering the area he served  Zammit with a perfect low square pass and with only Greens keeper Dejan Milivojsa to beat he skied the ball over the bar and Alessio Magri was the fouled outside the area and Tanti drove well off target from the free kick.

Two minutes after restart Floriana created the first action as Borg Castaldi served Camilleri with a through ball just outside the area and as he was hauled down by Alessio Magri thus spoiling a scoring opportunity Referee Darko Stankovic brandished the red card., from the resultant free kick Borg Castaldi drove over the bar.

San Gwann were not demoralized despite their numerical disadvantage and resumed playing very well and created more actions up to the final whistle.

Zammit released Mallia in the area and his hard grounder was cleared on the line to a corner with Milivojsa beaten, and in the 52nd minute they took a deserved lead when Mallia relased Tanti in the area who scored with a ahrd drive in the top left hand corner of the net giving Milivojsa no chance to save.

In a rare action by Floriana Borg Castaldi released Sean sultana on the right flank and after he advanced to the right edge of the area Bargar saved his shot.

Milivojsa then saved a shot by Mallia after he dribbled past a defender outside the area and a minute before the end San Gwann came very close to double their lead when substitute Glenn Pace entered the area after dribbling past two opponents and the ball hit the side netting from his shot.
