Dingli Qualify after keen game.

Dingli 4 – Sirens 1

Dingli qualified for the Group Phase with a 5-1 aggregate after having won the First Leg 1-0, Sirens will compete in the newly-formed Section D.

The game was only one minute old when Dingli forged ahead. Clyde Dimech released Daniel Mamo in the area and as he was tripped by the on-rushing Sirens keeper Omar Borg the same player made no mistake from the penalty spot.

In another action by Dingli Glenn Abela was fouled outside the area and from the free kick by Liam Antonelli, Borg saved the ball in two attempts.

Sirens reacted and created three actions in a row. Nathan Cutajar released Elias Naeli on the left flank and Borg neutralized the ball from his cross. Wayne Buhagr ponced on a faulty clearance and after entering the area he missed the upright by inches and Brendon Barbara served Cutajar in the area and a defender cleared the ball to a corner.

Equilibrium was restored in the 31st minute when Cutajar received the ball from a long drop-kick from his keeper and after advancing in the area he scored with a low drive.

In another action by Dingli Mamo was fouled on the right flank and Borg saved the free kick shot by the same player. Dingli re-established their one-goal lead in the 40th minute when they were awarded an indirect free kick in the area after Borg handled the ball from a throw in by team-mate Shady Darmanin, the free kick shot by Mamo created havoc in the area and from the melee that ensued Nicholas D’Agastino managed to score with a hard low drive.

In the first minute of added time of the first period the score became 3-1 as D’Agostino dribbled past an opponent on the right flank and from a very acute angle he scored with a cross-shot.

The first two actions after thew restart were created by Sirens. Cutajar was fouled outside the area and the ball missed the upright from the free kick by Naeli and cutajat was again fouled on the right flank and from the free kick by Luke Djincharadze was headed away with difficulty.

In the first action by Dingli D’Agostino was fouled on the right flank and after Mamo floated a high ball in the area from the free kick Abela drove out from inside the area.

Sirens kept trying and they won a corner kick on the right flank which was taken by Cutajar and the ball was cleared away with difficulty and moments later they were denied by the wood work when

Cutajar served substitute Carlos Muscat in the area and the ball hit the upright from his hard drive with Dingli keeper Sheldon Sammut beaten and the ball was cleared to a corner.

In the 70th minute it was Dingli’s turn to be denied by the wood work. Abela served Muscat with a through ball on the edge of the area and from his hard rising shot the ball thumped the bar with Borg beaten and a defender managed to clear the ball away to safety.

Two minutes before the end of normal time Dingli scored their fourth and final goal as Muscat pounced on a faulty clearance and scored with a hard rising shot from outside the area.
