Valletta    2

Paola H     2

This game was watched by a sizeable crowd at the Victor Tedesco Ground and both sets of youngsters played a very good game which pleased those present.

The game was only three minutes old when Valletta opened the score as Orsan Mackay pounced on a defensive indecision just outside the area who shot past Paola keeper Ryan Vella with a low drive after entering the area.

This early set-back served as a boost for the Paolites as they rallied and mounted six actions. Jon P Seychel dribbled past an opponent on the left flank and after his perfect cross Matthew Portelli drove slightly over the bar from inside the area. Rydon Cassar was fouled on the right flank and Andrei Spiteri headed out from inside the area following the free kick by Nicholas Fava. Spieri then released Mbong in the area who then missed the upright by inches.

Mbong was served with a cross from the right by Portelli and the ball was cleared to a corner from his shot. Valletta keeper Rashed Al-Tumi had to come out of his charge to foil Mbong with a timely sortie after he was put through in the area by Rydon Cassar and Rydon Cassar released Spiteri on the right flank and the ball was cleared to a corner from his cross.

In another action by Valletta Owen Agius served Miguel Ghigo with a through ball outside the area and Rydon Cassar foiled him from further progression with a timely tackle and athe other end, Mbong released Spiteri in the area but he missed the upright and drove out with Al-Tumi out of his charge.

In the 27th minute Paola restored equilibrium when Kane Bonello released Mbong in the area and after he was tripped Nicholas Fava made no mistake from the spot.

Paola then created the last action before the break as Rydon Cassar released Kurt Zammit on the right flank and al-Tumi neutralized the ball from his cross-shot.

A minute after restart Valletta regained their slender lead when Mackay was fouled outside the area and Miguel Ghigo netted from the free kick leaving Vella stranded.

Their joy lasted only four minutes as Paola restored parity once again as Spiteri released Mbong  in the area who after side-stepping an opponent scored with a low drive.

In the 46th minute Paola came very close to take the lead when after a flag kick by Neil Browrigg from the right flank Al-Tumi was forced to dive and save on the fatal line a header by substitute Miguel Cassar and minutes later from another  flag kick by Brownrigg from the right a header by substitute Miguel Cassar was cleared away with difficulty.

The Paolites resumed with their pressing and mounted another two actions. Substitute Nathan Ghigo released Spiteri in the area who failed to apply the killer touch from a very ideal position and Al-Tumi saved a free kick shot by Bonello after substitute Clyde Bonnici was fouled outside the area.

The last action before the end was created by Valletta as Gareth Darmanin was fouled outside the area and Hayden Sciberras missed the upright from the free kick.
