The final result is a clear indication that Melita were the stronger outfit during the game as they disposed of the feeble challenge offered by Mqabba. They dominated proceedings from the very first whistle as Mqabba created only three occasions throughout the 70 minutes of play.

 

After only four minutes Melita were already in the driving seat as Andrew Galea released Luca Ganado in the area and after the ball was partly cleared outside the area from his shot Jake Chetcuti shot past Mqabba keeper Owen Farrugia and into the net.

 

Melita kept pressing. Miguel Ciappara served Shaun Debono in the area and the ball was cleared on the line to a corner and Eddie Micallef Stafrace put Ganado through in the area Farrugia saved his shot to a corner.

 

In the 11th minute Melita doubled their lead as Rafel Grima crossed the ball in the area from the right flank and as Farrugia fumbled the ball Ganado was on hand to tap the ball in the net.

 

In the 17th minute Melita came very close to score a third goal when Miguel ciappara served Chetcuti in the area who then served Ganado with a square pass but he fialed to apply the killer touch from a very ideal position.

 

The score became 3-0 in the 21st minute. Chetcuti released Ganado in the area who after dribbling past the onrushing keeper he scored with a low drive.

 

Mqabba reduced the gap in the 27th minute as skipper Christopher Cutajar controlled a ball in midfield who entered the area after out-speeding two defenders and scored with a low shot to make it 1-3.

 

In another action by Melita substitute Julian Jaccarini dribbled past an opponent outside the area and Farrugia saved his effort to a corner with a diving save.

 

A minute before the break Melita scored a fourth goal as Ganado entered the area after dribbling past an opponent and netted with a hard low drive.

 

Mqabba created the first action after the resumption as Christopher Cutajar was fouled on the right flank and the ball was headed away from the free kick by Kurt Cutajar.

 

Melita soon regained the initiative as they mounted four actions. Shaun Debono was fouled on the right edge of the area and from the same player’s free kick Thomas Mifsud failed to apply the killer touch from a very ideal position. Substitute Alec Sladden released Ganado on the right flank and Farrugia neutralized the ball from his cross-shot. Debono then dribbled past an opponent on the right flank and the ball was cleared to a corner from his cross and the same player entered the area after dribbling past an opponent on the right flank and a defender cleared the ball to a corner from his shot.

 

In an action by Mqabba Christopher Cutajar dribbled past an opponent on the left flank and Melita keeper Eman Falzon neutralized his dangerous cross-shot with a diving save.

 

On the hour Melita lost a very good chance to increase their lead as substitute Thomas Borg crossed the ball in the area after beating a defender on the right flank and Chetcuti was seconds late to apply the killer touch.

 

Seven minutes before the end of normal time Melita scored their fifth goal as Thomas Borg served Ganado in the area with a cross from the right flank and he scored with a header, and just before the final whistle Melita created another action as substitute Isaac Millo released Borg in the area and the ball was cleared to a corner from his shot.
