Antonio Mizzi elected on FIBA board for the third time

The President of the Malta Basketball Association, Magistrate Antonio Mizzi, was once again elected on the FIBA Europe board during the election that was held at the FIBA headquarters in Munich on Saturday 15th May 2010. Mag. Mizzi obtained 41 votes out of a possible 49, and he ended 9th out of 32 candidates.

This is the third time that Mag. Mizzi was selected to serve in the top organisational structure of European basketball. In a short comment, the MBA President said that this once again confirms that Malta is highly esteemed at top levels.

Meanwhile, FIBA Europe elected a new president. Mr. Olafur Rafnsson of Iceland defeated Turgay Demirel of Turkey, the only other candidate, by garnering 32 of 51 votes.

    A simple question: what is the local basketball game gaining from this election result? Personally, the local game has gone from bad to worse with more clubs disbanding every year and no promising youngsters making the grade.
