Athlete Marilyn Grech won another two medals on Friday in another positive day for the Malta Employees Sports Association (MESA) in the World Company Sport Games being held in La Baule, France.

Grech, who takes part in Category A (18-30 years) won silver in the 200 metres in the morning, but went one better in the afternoon when she placed first in the 400 metres to claim the gold medal. She had won a bronze in the 100 metres on Thursday.

Mark Mifsud, another Category A athlete, won a bronze medal in the 400 metres, after just missing third place by 0.20 seconds in the 200 metres earlier in the morning. Mifsud had already won a bronze medal on Thursday in the 800 metres.

These three medals increase the medals’ tally in Athletics to ten – two gold, three silver and five bronze.

Another bronze medal was won by Joseph Mallia in the Darts individual tournament, where he finished third overall. Two German players finished in the first two places, with the eventual winner, Anthony Henton, conceding a sole defeat to Mallia.

The MESA Badminton team, which is taking part in the Senior Teams Event, is guaranteed a medal after making it to the semi-finals which will be played on Saturday morning, while both Bowling teams will be taking part in the finals event on Saturday.

The MIA Bowling team placed 5th in the qualifying round, while the BOV team just managed to make it to the finals by finishing in 16th place out of 32 teams.

Both the male and the female Beach Volleyball teams were eliminated in the quarter-finals and will be playing in the 5th to 8th placing tournament.
