Rabat continued on their positive run registering four wins on the trot and now lead the standings on maximum points from 4 games. Their short passing and ball on the ground were a very delight to watch and they proved to be a very strong outfit as Msida created only three actions worthy of note throughout the whole 70 minutes and they are in fifth position on 7 points from 4 games.
The first two actions were created by Msida. Newman Debono was fouled outside the area and Rabar keeper Kieran Brincau had to dive and save the free kick shot by Micwen Gauci and Brandon Ouliawi was then fouled outside the area and Debono drove over the bar from the free kick.
The reaction by Rabat was very immediate as they created three actions. Nicolae Chetcuti released Alejandro Brincat on the left flank who then square-passed the ball to Leone Ellul and Msida keeper Ismael Lovegrove saved his close-range shot. Luke Mifsud served Chetcuti on the right edge of the area and his lobbed ball missed the far post by inches and the same player then dribbled past an opponent outside the area and the ball missed the upright from his shot.
Rabat forged ahead in the 27th minute when Ellul served Chetcuti with a through ball in the area and he scored with a hard and low diagonal drive.
The last two actions before the break were also created by Rabat. After a flag kick by Chetcuti from the left flank Lovegrove saved a header by Gianluca Bugeja and Christopher Muscat released Chetcuti in the area and after Lovegrove partly saved his shot he had to dive and save the rebound shot by the same player.
Rabat went straight on the offensive after the restart. Chetcuti served Brincat with a through ball in the area and Lovegrove foiled him with a timely sortie.
The score became 2-0 in the 41st minute when from a very well-taken flag kick by Chetcuti the ball thumped the bar from a header by Bugeja and the same player managed to head the ball into the net in his second attempt.
The pressing by Rabat was incessant as they mounted two more actions. Chetcuti served Bugeja with a square pass outside the area and Lovegrove saved his shot and substitute Max Bonavia released Muscat on the right flank and Lovegrove turned the ball to a corner from his cross-shot.
In the only action by Msida in the 57th minute Debono served Ouliawi in the area and Rabat substitute keeper Damian Borg foiled him with a timely sortie.
In another action by Rabat Muscat served Chetcuti with a through ball outside the area who after dribbling past an opponent Lovegrove saved his long-range shot.
In the 63rd minute substitute Ayrton Muscat scored a third goal with a lobbed ball from inside the area after he was put through by Chetcuti.
In the last action after a similar move a defender cleared the ball to a corner from Ayrton Muscast’s effort.
