Watch his goals as Andre Schembri signs 2 year deal with AC Omonia

AC Omonia will be Andre Schembri’s new club for the next 2 years in the heart of Cyprus. The latter signed a new deal this morning after successfully completing a medical test in capital city Nicosia where AC Omonia are based.

After turning down a number of club offers in Europe, especially from Greece where Schembri played last season, AC Omonia offered a 2 year deal to the Maltese International. Schembri put pen to paper this morning and was officially presented to the media inCyprus. The interest in the player started during his stay in Greece while he played for Panionios.

Andre Schembri explained that this was one of the busiest summers in his career dealing with many offers and finally deciding to choose this prestigious club from the Cypriot 1st division. “I had to choose wisely, I had no hurry but pressure sometimes didn’t help” Schembri said. After signing his new contract, Schembri was delighted and looking forward to his first training session with his new teammates.

This is Schembri’s 6th foreign club in his international career after playing with Eintracht Braunshweig (Germany), Carl Zeis Jena (Germany), Austria Karnten (Austria), Ferencvaros (Hungary), Olympiakos Volos (Greece) and Panionios (Greece).

For the past 60 years AC Omonia played in the 1st division winning 20 League Championships, 14 Cypriot Cups and 16 Super Cups. The club is one of the main clubs in Nicosia and their main rivals also their derby are Apoel Nicosia. The club placed 3rd last season and hence played in the Europa League qualifiers, loosing 6-5 on penalties in the 3rd round against the Serbians FK Crvena Zvezda.

The Cypriot 1st division kicks off on Saturday 1st September and Schembri will make his first appearance with AC Omonia on Sunday 2nd September against Ayia Napa FC.


Maltese international Andre Schembri successfully passed a medical and will put pen to paper on a contract in few hours with AC Omonia in Cyprus.

The 26 year old is expecting to sign his contract in the next few hours.

Omonia Nicosia are the second most successful club in the Cyprus First Division League after Apeol. The Club from the Captial won the league 20th times and they last clinch it was three years ago. Last season Omonia finish in third place and won their 14th Coca Cola Cup. The club play their league home games in the GSP Stadium. The Cypriot league starts on 1st September. More to follow….
