Malta’s name was in the news yesterday as Andre’ Schembri scored a hat-trick as his Hungarian side Ferencvaros beat Vasas with a 3-1 score line. The ex Floriana, Hibernians and Marsaxlokk offensive midfielder scored the opening goals for his team, as Ferencvaros were leading 2-0 in the first 30 minutes of the game. He scored again on the 53rd minute mark after Vasas had closed the gap earlier in the second half.

Before joining Ferencvaros Schembri featured for Eintracht Braunschweig, Carl Zeis Jena and SK Austria Kärnten.

His latest performances will definitely push Malta National coach John Buttigieg to give him a call in the coming days for his possible re-inclusion in the National squad. The player had last year refused to be part of the Malta team days before an international friendly as his argument was that he wanted to concentrate on his Club to regain his post within the starting line up.
