An entertaining handball season ensured

Friday, October 7, 2011, 16:30
The handball season will start this Saturday at the University Sports Hall with the MHA Cup. The first game will see the newly formed Phoenix SC ladies against La Salle Trendi at 12:30, followed by Luxol H.C against Aloysians Zmerc at 14:00. On paper, Aloysians are the strongest side for the fact that they got some new signings and also for the fact that their closest rivals La Salle lost some key players. Though La Salle lost three key players, mainly their keeper Dorianne Tabone and their right back Maxlene Farrugia, they still remain a team to beat and the addition of Celaine Ellul from Kavallieri should partly fill the void left by Maxlene.
Phoenix have a strong team led by Natasha Celic and the team’s enthusiasm showed during the summer will surely portray itself on court. Luxol are mostly an unchanged side with the return of Daniela Salamone. The odds favour Aloysians for the main titles with Luxol, La Salle and Phoenix having to fight it out for the second place.
In the men’s category we will see Luxol Living Well facing Kavallieri RS2 at 15:30 and  La Salle ZT Development face Phoenix Mendoza at 17:00 on Saturday. Aloysians will have a free weekend after participating in the EHF Challenge Cup last weekend. Aloysians and La Salle seem to be the main contenders for the main titles this season. Aloysians strengthened their squad with the addition of pivot Damian Gargano while La Salle added James Farrugia and Neville Borg to their fold. Kavallieri, Luxol and Phoenix will be eyeing the third place after their respective sides remain more or less unchanged.
The season will be a sure bet for an entertaining handball experience that should be enjoyed by those who can make it to the University Sports Complex every Saturday for the handball games.
