Aloysians Zmerc – 2013/14 Women’s First Division Handball League Winners

There was only one aim for Aloysians Zmerc this season – getting the Champions title back to the Club.  Aloysians Zmerc had a tough but very rewarding season this year. The team’s determination, fighting spirit, team-work, unity and the hunger for the Championship title saw the Aloysians ladies being crowned Champions on their last match against Luxol last weekend. This was the fifth women’s league title in their history.

The road was a long one, full of obstacles mostly due to the injuries some key players suffered but under the guidance of Coach Milos Stanisavljevic the team managed to overcome all. Having finished the season with only one loss was the decisive factor to winning the Title. The determination of the team captain Brenda Camilleri, her drive and mentorship on court was one of the key factors in the victory. The additions of some younger players instilled new playing power to the already established team. The sterling performance of the youngster Janice Bonnici was a determining asset in the last match against Luxol. The experience of the veteran and more established players is still one of the most important elements of this team. The same can be said about the  goalkeepers who are the back bone of this team. The last game saw Marylyn Agius dominating her goal post and being a determinant asset in winning the game.

However, players and coaches do not stand alone and behind a great team there is always a great hardworking committee and President of the Club who endlessly believe and work for the benefit of the team. Thanks goes to the main sponsors of the Aloysians Handball Club who support the club every year, to the opponents who always give an honest and competitive game and last but certainly not the least to the loyal supporters who charge their players with more energy during every game.
