”ISC Gymnastics in collaboration with San Michel, Renault, Sundreams Travel, Cavalieri Hotel, Seracino &, Barcelona Lounge organised their AGM and annual event Gymfest, in fact the 9th edition, at the University Sports Hall on Thursday the 7th June 2012. The atmosphere created was electrifying and this club deserves a lot of praise for their great efforts in promoting this fantastic discipline. This year’s theme in Gymfest, has been inspired by the music from various decades. Gymfest gave the gymnasts a chance to exhibit their physical abilities in front of a sizeable crowd which flocked the University Hall throughout the day. A total of around 465 gymnast were involved with ages varying between 5 and 17 years of age. The standard was varied and allowed for recreational, intermediate as well as advanced performances. Most children showed great confidence and a lot of potential to grow stronger in this sport.

ISC presently operates in various schools around the islands mainly in San Anton School and San Andrea School with other guest schools including Chiswick House School, St Dorothy’s School, St Monica Schools, Our Lady Immaculate and St Joseph Schools. Interviewed, head coach Mr Albert Chun, was very satisfied with the way the event ran and the overall growth and smooth running of the club. He thanked all the athletes, parents, members, helpers, sponsors and was really excited and looking forward to another successful year of gymnastics involving many more achievements for his athletes.

The highlight of the event were the artistic performances by the ISC advanced group. This group has been involved with a similar performance during the Military Tattoo 2011 and displayed many other times in various occasions around the islands. These performances involve the use of gym apparatus, a combination of gym dances, acrobatic and gymnastics skills.

Present for the event was Dr Steven Spiteri Parliamentary Assistant, Ministry of Education, Employment and the Family. During his speech he congratulated the club for the event and the efforts in promoting sports to our children. He insisted on the importance of sports becoming a way of life for the Maltese people and praised all parents present for their commitment and initiative to educate their children to a healthy life style.

All in all the event was a great success and all the money raised through this event is going towards the landing foam pit, which the club would like to invest in, in order to train their athletes at higher levels of skill with the efficient shock absorption foam system which gives potential to build greater confidence by cushioning all kinds of falls efficiently.”
