38 Cyclists cycling Challange for Cancer

On Monday 22 July 2013, the Minister for Foreign Affairs of Malta, the Hon. George Vella, together with H.E Mrs Vanessa Frazier, the Ambassador of Malta to the Kingdom of Belgium, had the honour to greet a group of 38 cyclists participating in the Alive Charity Foundation’s ALIVE 2013 Cycling Challenge for Cancer.

The ALIVE2013 Cycling Challenge for Cancer is in support of Action for Breast Cancer Foundation (ABCF). The event consists of 38 cyclists participating in a cycling challenge across 3 countries between the 19th and 26th July 2013. The group will cycle more then 720 km in 6 days and have already cycled from London to Brussels where they will depart to finally arrive in Paris.

The group cycled to Dar Malta in Brussels where Minister Vella and Ambassador Frazier, accompanied by Commissioner Tonio Borg and MEP Claudette Abela Baldacchino met with the group of 38 cyclists on the fourth day of the ALIVE 2013 Cycling Challenge. The staff of the Embassy and the Permanent Representation to the European Union, together with the representatives of the Maltese living in Belgium, were also present to greet the cyclists with refreshments.

At Dar Malta, Ambassador Frazier presented a cheque for the donations received by the Maltese community in Belgium gathered during events organised by the Embassy during the past yearOn presenting the donation, the Ambassador congratulated the group for their endeavour in volunteering to gather the funds to combat cancer, one of the biggest killers in today’s world. The Ambassador remarked on the importance of such voluntary work that can contribute greatly to Maltese society and to those who participate, and encouraged Maltese youth wherever they are to take example to volunteer for such good causes. The Ambassador praised the Alive Charity Foundation’s efforts in combating cancer and its work towards raising awareness on Breast Cancer and to raise funds for continued research in combating such diseases.

The donations gathered by the ALIVE 2013 Cycling Challenge for Cancer will be donated to ABCF which in collaboration with the Research, Innovation & Development Trust (RIDT) is launching a project to help research in the area of breast cancer, being conducted in the University of Malta.
