2012 IBFS World Snooker Championships‏

Four Maltese players Alex Borg, Duncan Bezzina, Simon Zammit and Roberta Cutajar together with referee Ambrose Licari will be flying to Bulgaria on Friday to represent Malta in the 2012 IBSF World Snooker Championships which starts on Saturday in the Bulgarian capital Sofia. The championships comes to an end on Sunday 2nd December.


A record 191 players from 47 countries will compete in the championships which will be played on 16 tables at the Sofia Princess Hotel. 100 players will feature in the Mens championship, 50 in the Masters (Over 40) category while 41 ladies will compete for the Women’s title. Borg and Bezzina will take part in the Mens championship, Zammit in the Masters while Cutajar will be playing the Ladies event.


The 100 players in the Mens category were divided into twenty groups of five players each with the top three in each group qualifying into the knock-out stages.

In the Masters category the 50 players were divided into ten groups of five players each with the top three qualifying into the stages.


In the Women’s category there are eight groups of five players each with the top three players moving into the next stage.
